Because you're older, and you have more insurance.
We haht Millie GahfieldBack when I wrote for The Boston Globe, there was much handwringing among editors about how to get those younger readers. Sometimes it seemed like the older, loyal readers just weren't enough for them, and so, decisions got made. They did away with things like Confidential Chat (an age-old reader-generated content feature that was its own kind of Facebook.) But I enjoyed getting letters from these older readers. These were people who loved the Globe, and really read the paper. My friend's parents really appreciated it when I helped them get a good obit in the paper. It meant something. And whenever I'd run into them, you'd think I walked on water. As my friend Donald's mother would say: "Dahlin I luvved yaw lahst column!" Which brings us to Millie Garfield, the 84-year-old blogger. Who could coach Julianne Moore on how to do a Boston accent correctly. Fun stuff. Be sure to check out the I Can't Open It videos. Wish I'd thought of them. Insert your mother there. Only with my mother it's that she can't ever find a pencil. --BJ Roche |
